How it works

Four simple steps to peace of mind

Set it up once. We'll handle the rest — quietly, securely, and only when the moment is right.

1

Write your messages

Record letters, life lessons, or simple goodbyes. Add a photo. As many as you like.

2

Choose your people

Pick who receives what. Family, partners, kids, friends — each message goes only to its named recipient.

3

Add trusted verifiers

Two trusted people confirm your passing before anything is released. Nothing happens without them.

4

Delivered with care

Your words reach the right people, at the right moment — exactly as you wrote them.

Features

Built for the moments that matter

Powerful, private tools — wrapped in a simple, gentle interface.

Schedule for a future date, or release after death. Same simple form, your choice.

Photos & memories

Attach a photo to each message. A picture and a few honest words go a long way.

Manage who receives what. Import contacts in bulk so you can focus on the writing.

Two-factor authentication

Every login is verified by an emailed code. Your account stays yours.

No single person can release your messages. We require confirmation from at least two trusted people.

Final Instructions

Where the will is. Which insurance to call. The vet's number. The practical things your family will scramble for — already written down.

Tiered announcements

Pre-write the note your circle should receive. Inner circle gets the personal one. Extended network gets a public-friendly note. No more chaotic group texts.

Grief-paced delivery

Messages don't have to land all at once. Stagger them — one a week, one a month, one a year — so each Reader gets time to sit with each Passage.

The Reader's Library

People who receive your Passages get a permanent, beautifully designed Library — not a one-time email link. Their grief companion, always there.

Letters to your future self

Seal a letter to yourself for 1, 5, or 10 years from now. A gift from past you, delivered to future you on the day you choose.

Use cases

For the words you've been meaning to say

Most of us put it off. Afterword makes it simple to do today, what means everything tomorrow.

💌

For your kids

A letter for their wedding day. Birthday notes for years to come. The advice you wish you'd been given.

💜

For your partner

Apologies. Gratitude. The everyday "I love you" that gets lost in the noise of life.

📖

Stories & memories

Family history. The one about your grandfather. The day you met your wife. Don't let those go untold.

🤝

Practical wishes

Where to find the safe-deposit key. Who gets the guitar. The thoughts that don't fit a will.

🌱

Future milestones

Schedule a note for a graduation, an anniversary, or a 30th birthday — and let life unfold around it.

🙏

Reconciliation

Some apologies are too hard to say in person. Some forgiveness needs time. Write it now; deliver it when ready.

FAQ

Common questions

How does Afterword know when to deliver a message?

For after-death messages: when at least two of your trusted Keepers independently confirm your passing through their unique link, your draft messages are released. For scheduled messages: we deliver on the date you set, automatically.

What if a Keeper confirms by mistake?

The moment one Keeper confirms, you get an email with a one-click "I'm still here" button. You have 14 days to click it — doing so resets the entire process. Combined with the two-Keeper rule, accidental triggers don't become irreversible.

What do my Readers actually receive?

An email with a private, single-recipient link. Clicking it opens that Passage and unlocks their permanent Reader's Library — every Passage you've left for them, in one place. They can revisit anytime, leave private journal notes, and never lose access to your words.

Can I edit a message later?

Yes — at any time while you're signed in, you can edit, replace photos, change recipients, or delete messages entirely. Nothing is locked until it's delivered.

Who can see my messages?

Only you, while you're alive. Each recipient sees only the messages addressed to them, after delivery. Verifiers never see message content — only the signal that you've passed.

Is it free?

You can sign up and start writing at no cost. We'll be transparent about any future paid plans.

How do recipients receive a message?

By email — with a private, single-recipient link to read the message and view any attached photo. They never see other recipients or other messages.

Don't leave it for someday.
