Trust & longevity

The 100-Year
Promise.

Words you leave behind shouldn't disappear when a startup does. This is our commitment to making sure they don't.

Why this matters

Most digital legacy services quietly disappear, taking everyone's data with them. We've been collectively burned enough times to know that "we'll keep your messages safe forever" is a promise that needs more than a handshake. So here's how we plan to make ours real.

Your data is always yours, in a format you can take with you.

Every account has a one-click data export — a complete JSON archive of your Passages, Readers, Keepers, instructions, replies, and timestamps. It's free, it's instant, and you don't need to ask permission. Use it for backup, migration to another service, or just peace of mind.

We don't sell or share your data, ever.

What you write here is for the people you choose. Not for advertisers, not for analytics partners, not for anyone training a model. We make money from subscriptions — that's it.

If we ever shut down, we hand your archive back.

If Afterword ever ceases operations, we commit to a minimum 180-day wind-down period during which every active user receives an automatic data export and a clear notice. No silent disappearances. No data held hostage.

The Final Chapter still works without us.

For accounts that have already triggered the Final Chapter, we hold the released content for at least 10 years beyond the trigger date — so Readers can revisit their Library, and the words you left land for the people you intended, even if the rest of the service moves on.
